Difference between Hosted IP and On-site IP Solution

Hosted IP

On-Site  IP solution

Users are geographically distributed across numerous sites 

Users are mainly located at a head office site

No Equipment  on site apart from IP Phones

On site IP PBX

There is a low number of users on each site (less than five)

There are a reasonable number of users on each site (Greater Than five)

In the event of an Internet failure, there is no ability to utilise any part of the phone system.

The IP PBX delivers service even if the Internet fails.

The organisation has no desire to integrate with existing infrastructure (e.g. legacy PBX, or ISDN lines)

There may be a requirement for the integration of existing infrastructure (e.g. ISDN lines)

Call costs are kept low due to VoIP-based routing

Users may require Internet telephony service for least cost routing capability, as well as minimising line rental costs associated with legacy infrastructure.

Support is included in the monthly Hosted fee

There is some IT administration capability within the organisation for performing simple tasks such as adding telephone extensions.
